Greetings, everyone. My wife was correct, attempting to blog after every night of league bowling has become an unmanageable task. As a result, we're heading in a new direction. We're going to have less emphasis on scores, and more emphasis on what makes our sport great, and how we all can grab a little bit more of that greatness.

Here's what's been happening during my 2 week hiatus from blogging. In the Partytimer league, I had series of 650 and 587. In the Thursday night men's league, 629 and 706. Through all 4 of those series, I really felt like I was making great shots, even when I only scored 587. I usually count these 3 things into what makes a great shot.

The first component is whether or not I was able to post the shot at the foul line. If you ever find yourself struggling, focus on maintaining your post until the ball impacts the pins. If you can do that, you'll fix 80% of whatever it was that you were doing wrong. The second component is having the proper ball roll. Is the ball more end over end when I come up the back, or does it have more axis tilt when I wrap around the side and push the ball farther down the pattern before reacting. Lastly, check where the ball is changing direction, and make sure you're hitting the correct break point. If you're not sure, apply the "Rule of 31" to get an idea of where your ball should be. Nothing fancy here, just old-fashioned, common sense bowling. Check your game for these 3 items, and make adjustments as necessary. If you need help, consult your local Pro Shop Operator.
